SUSAN FRANK, PRESIDENT, susan@sumalandscaping.com

Susan Frank founded Suma Landscaping in 1977. She holds a degree in Ornamental Horticulture as well as a C-27 Landscaping Contractors License and a qualified pest control license with emphasis on Integrated Pest Management. A native of Miami, she now lives in Marin County after residing in the East Bay for many years. Susan is also a Sensei (teacher) in Karate-do. After several years as a volunteer at Hospice by the Bay, she and Molly (her rescue poodle) are now continuing to offer support at other facilities in the Bay Area. Susan enjoys working directly with the amazing members of the Suma team and is honored by the praise she receives from our clients in appreciation of their work.

EUGÈNE SPOOR, VICE PRESIDENT, eugene@sumalandscaping.com

Eugène Spoor has been in the landscape industry for more than 25 years. Eugène manages Suma Landscaping’s day-to-day operations and personally oversees all phases of Suma’s landscape design and landscape construction projects. With his extensive knowledge and attention to detail, Eugène is able to partner with homeowners, architects, engineers, and managers to ensure excellent quality of work and provide invaluable peace of mind on even the most complex jobs. Eugène is originally from The Hague in The Netherlands and holds a Landscaping Contractors License and QAC-B Pesticide License. He is also certified by California Polytechnic State University as an Irrigation Auditor.

JORDAN KERNODLE, OPERATIONS MANAGER, jordan@sumalandscaping.com

Jordan joined Suma in 2021 as an Account Manager. His extensive experience in the landscaping industry includes years of gardening, nurseryman, irrigation, and management experience. His plant identification, pest control/identification, and California native expertise are great assets to the Suma team. He grew up in the Sierra Foothills and has resided in Oakland for the last 10 years. Outside of his landscaping career, Jordan is also a musician; he is a guitarist and vocalist for two touring bands based in the Bay Area.

PAM DELGADO, ACCOUNT MANAGER, pamd@sumalandscaping.com

Pam was raised on the Central Coast of California and has called the Bay Area her home for over 20 years. She first joined Suma in 2000, after having completed 5 years of apprenticeship with a master arborist and pruner. She left Suma to pursue her music career full time, performing percussion and vocals with her band, Blame Sally. Eager to get back to her roots in the Landscape/Gardening Industry she happily rejoined the Suma team as a Landscape Maintenance Supervisor in 2020. Pam continues to appreciate and perform music regularly, including as a volunteer for Bread and Roses Presents, a bay area organization which “brings hope and healing through live music.”

KIMBERLY VALENTINO, ACCOUNT MANAGER, kim@sumalandscaping.com

Kim was introduced to the landscaping industry while working in HOA and commercial property management, bringing her a unique client-centered perspective. She had been a landscaping professional for 6 years when she joined Suma in 2022, and has always been a tenacious advocate for her clients. Kim graduated from the University of La Verne in ’93 with BS in Biology and a minor in chemistry. Never one to stop learning and growing, she is currently working on a horticulture degree to develop her expertise further. Outside of work, Kim loves to hang out with her two sons, who are living with her in Martinez while attending college, their two pit bulls, and her best friend. She enjoys watching baseball, especially her son, who is aiming to go pro after college, and men’s golf. She loves to read a good book while sitting in the sun at the beach or poolside.
 

STEVEN POOLE, LANDSCAPE FOREMAN, poole.s@sumalandscaping.com

Steven Poole was born and raised in Alameda. He has been working in landscaping and construction since he was only 12 years old. He has been a valuable member of Suma’s team for the past 9 years. He is a foreman and leads his crew by example. His specialties are carpentry and stone work; he is also skilled in irrigation and plant identification. He is a guitarist, banjo player, woodworker, outdoorsman, and most importantly, a loving father.

GUILLERMO VARGAS, FIELD SUPERVISOR

Guillermo has been doing outstanding work for Suma for over 20 years. He’s still delivering his great experience and expertise to Suma clients after all these years for one reason- he absolutely loves what he does. Though a long-time East Bay resident, Guillermo is originally from Mexico City. In his free time, he loves to garden- it never gets old.

GENE HACKER, OFFICE MANAGER, ghacker@sumalandscaping.com

Gene brings over 25 years of experience to his role as Office Manager for Suma. Most of Gene’s experience as an Office or Operations Manager has been with professional service firms, focused on HR and executive support. Gene is a return employee to Suma and is excited to expand on his three years of service.  Gene’s favorite role is Dad, with a fabulous wife and two kids, they spend as much time as possible on the beaches and in the forests of Northern California.

Julie Graig has over 25 years of Management experience with the past 10 years focusing on C-level Executive Administration and Accounts Receivable/Payable. She has an optimistic attitude and excellent customer service skills. Julie was born and raised in Alameda, where she is now raising two teenage children. Julie enjoys being involved in their school activities, especially assisting with their music programs. Her favorite hobby is Softball; she plays for a co-ed league with the Alameda Park and Rec. Dept..

DANA KOSCIELNY, BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST, dana@sumalandscaping.com

Dana joined Suma as an administrative assistant in 2018 she quickly became our go-to person for creative administrative solutions. Her role has evolved as she has improved our technical systems, introduced us to project management software, designed marketing materials, managed contract creation, and much more. She earned her degree in Sociology from Reed College in 2016, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She is passionate about experiencing diverse cultures and environments while traveling worldwide and in wilderness.

Molly came to us through Big Dog Rescue via The Kern Project. She is not only the office mascot, but she also goes on missions to facilities such as Senior Homes and Children’s Hospitals in her role as a Therapy Dog
