Suma Landscaping Sweeps 2022 East Bay Landscaping Award Competition with Six Wins
Suma Landscaping yet again swept the landscaping awards held by the East Bay Chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association on Friday, June 6th, winning six awards for their landscape maintenance and installation in the East Bay for a second consecutive year of six wins. Suma has won multiple awards every one of the nine years they’ve entered the competition. This year the highest award, the Judge’s Award for best overall of entries in all 22 categories, went to Suma Landscaping for their work maintaining a gorgeous residential yard belonging to Piedmont local Lois De Domenico. Lois has praised Suma for their work on her always-spectacular garden saying that, “In these tumultuous times, this garden provides peace and tranquility in my life.” Pam Delgado, the Maintenance Account Manager for three of these award-winners in Piedmont, Alameda and Hayward, said that the secret to Suma’s success is that it is a “team effort with clear lines of communication and everyone working towards a common goal”. Meanwhile, the landscaping construction and installation team at Suma was also hard at work raking in awards for three new landscaping installations at private residences in Oakland, Piedmont, and Danville.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Oakland, CA
Suma Landscaping is proud to have been chosen to install the landscaping for the new Patient Care Pavilion which includes the Merritt Tower, the plaza, the streetscapes, rooftop therapy garden, and parking structure. The gardens are ulitilizing mostly drought tolerant and low maintenance native plants, grasses, some artificial turf, and drip irrigation.
“Nearly 10 years in planning, the new 250,000-square-foot, 11-story Patient Care Pavilion project includes 238 private, family-friendly patient rooms and a new emergency department—all designed to meet or exceed state seismic safety requirements. The $385 million project, which includes a $35 million, 1,067-space parking garage, merges the latest technology in a calming and healing environment that continues Alta Bates Summit’s 100-year tradition of providing quality patient care.” The medical center opened July 2014.
Suma Landscaping is proud to have been selected as the landscaper to transform a former parking lot into a wonderful green space for student use on the Samuel Merritt University campus in Oakland, CA.
“Oakland’s concentration of green buildings and space makes it one of the greenest cities in the nation, according to the City of Oakland, and Samuel Merritt University (SMU) is adding to our community’s reputation. Now SMU students have a new green space to study, relax, and even play hacky sac and touch-football next to the Peralta Pavilion building.”
